Christian Rumor: Mama Drama non-kid-induced

Our kids are being raised in a 'brave, new world'..and brave being used in the most loose way. I mean, seriously, spouting opinions about anything under the sun has become as widespread as inquiring to a new friend, "Where'd you grow up?"

Any delusion I may have had as a young mother assuming my kids would gradually be exposed to the ways of this world is obliterated in my current role as extinguisher-of-all-the-crap-my-nine-year-old-hears.

The child really is a sponge. And there are a lot of over-saturated sponges walking around his school telling him things about this big bad world. It's been a tough go of it, especially since he fears that a certain candidate will win and ruin the country (at his age, I was worried that the girl across the street would find a new best friend. Geez).

*BTW I strongly see his point on this* HOWEVER, something I came across today really put this phenomena of worldly topics reaching my kids ears (and hearts) in a whole new camp, and a dangerous one at that.

When a rumor is told, fiercely spread nationally, and a whole group is motivated to fan the flame, I am on a major defense and have to do my best to dig out the seed already planted in their little brains. And what makes me ferociously mad, is when the rumor-spreader is part of a Christian agenda.

Do you realize, Mr./Mrs. Christian Movement Maker, that you are crushing your witness to the world? You might be gaining steam politically or socially, but you are hurting the next generation in the most devastating way.

You are teaching my kids to judge (think there's a Bible verse on that) and alienate themselves from places where they might just make a difference.

You are running the risk of my children to not trust God's people. And that God's people are not trustworthy. And when that happens, they believe lies about God's people and God himself.

No Christian, no matter how well-intentioned, how desperate, or how popular, should associate with a rumor. If anything, Christians should be the first to stand up against the lies, the hate, the deceit. More and more, especially in election year, I see the mass quantity of falsities being spread indiscriminately. We have to sift through lies to even catch a glimpse at truth. And what's most scary, is how I see many people not being bothered to doing that, so they are constructing a false world around them, a flawed opinion that's gaining ground in taking over the young minds after us.

It's ugly and it must be stopped.

Stop believing rumors, Church. Start standing for truth, even if it doesn't puff up your agenda and it brings innocence to a non-believer. As my grandmother used to say,

The Truth's the Truth.

Let our kids grow up knowing that, first and foremost.

The Truth is Enough

Learned about the truth behind the Council of Nicaea and the reason for a creed. Have known the creed all my life, but it means nothing if you don't know why you say it. Chills as we read the creed together in church today. Such amazing history! And the telephone game of today when it comes to attacks on beliefs and doctrine is prominent and dangerous and needs to be corrected. What do you believe about God? And what's your source?

Happy Sunday!

Fluff or Slough?

So, I don't know if Blogger had a hiccup...but I just noticed that a post I wrote long ago, had over 18,000 Google shares. WHAT??? And I have 69 followers. Interesting. Hmmmm....take a look at the post, and consider following this blog...I have a new hope in sharing my heart!
###
For two days, my husband and I uncovered a whole mound of doctrine that we almost bought into...or didn't know we had allowed to shape us because it has wrapped its tendrils around many things we've always counted on as solid and true.
I have a sudden awareness of the world around me, and a deep desire to cling to the foundations of what I know. In the light of truths that I depend on, aka the Holy Bible, I am more aware than ever of twisted doctrine that's seeped into my heart, blurred my vision, and fostered a judgement for those who run the other way.

 I should be running, too.

Mostly, I have realized, that just because it says "Christian", doesn't give it clout to be trusted. As much as I preach anti-cultural ideas, have I ever pulled apart the web of Christian culture to dissect the parts that paint a plastic doctrine of God? It's difficult, because it seems so appealing to the human heart, but only with a keen eye of discernment do I know that it's feeding my flesh, not my Spirit.

Through solid Bible studies, like Beth Moore's, and my Scripture-preaching pastor, I begin to slough away the falsities, the manipulated ideas of putting experiences of God ahead of the Truths of God, pushing off the man-made notions that God needs us instead of us desperately needing Him in this one-way street to Glory. The false promise that what we've gone through has any clout  against the Word of God.

I am but filthy rags.

Never before has the solid teaching of hiding Scripture in my heart meant more to me. In a world of diluted doctrine and false prophets that have disguised themselves so well in the mainstream, I must be sharp and unwavering in the recesses of my soul.

Did I really think these warnings in Scripture only described obvious non-Christians? Sheep's clothing is trending as we speak, even among our Christian circles. It's fluff without the Word backing it up, it's synthetic without the roots of The Vine offering Life. Hiding the Word in my heart is my only chance to see beneath the disguise, to slough away the fluff and rest in Truth.
